Prada has a massive history and has traversed to every unit of the globe. It has conquered the fashion world through all its achievements and innovations, and yet the label has managed to stay all in the family.
Prada was started by Mario Prada in 1913 as a leather goods store, then known as Fratelli Prada (Prada Brothers). He designed and sold handbags, shoes, trunks, and suitcases in Milan for a burgeoning travel market. When the signature Prada suitcases, made from heavy, cumbersome walrus skin, proved to be ill suited for air travel, Prada concentrated on designing exquisite leather accessories and waterproof hand bags. In 1978, Mario’s granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, took over the company.
Miuccia Prada began to change the way people viewed fashion. It started in 1985 with her nylon bags— never heard before in the realm of luxury goods— which became an overnight sensation and earned her a devoted following. In 1989, Prada successfully hit the runway featuring the pret-a-porter collection which stood out because of simplicity displayed with clean lines, luxurious fabrics, and basic colours. It was well received by the fashion world, and Prada’s popularity skyrocketed. By the 1990s, Prada emerged as the leading force in fashion industry. The clothing and accessories were classy, smart, and were of supreme quality. Luxurious fabrics and simple styles, mostly in blacks, browns, and creams, became the signature look for Prada. The apparel was alluring and spoke of class without exposing too much skin. The Accessories offered by the brand included high heel shoes, skin-and-bones leather belts, and of course, the classic handbag. Miuccia’s husband Patizio Bertelli, who is also chief executive and chairman of the label’s parent company Prada S.p.A., encouraged her to launch a menswear line in 1993, by letting go off the tailored suits and adding prints and geometrically cut separates. In the same year she also launched the now popular Miu Miu. Along with Prada’s modernity inspired clothes, there are the teetering platform shoes, a sportswear line, the utilitarian handbags and myriad beauty ventures, which together played a huge role in making Prada one of the most recognised labels in the world.
In spite of the growing fame, The DNA of Prada’s classy handbags has remained constant and central to their original design- Tasteful and functional. Prada has high minded and solid set of classic handbags. The Cartella, Cuir Double, Galleria Bags are extremely wanted, and are not just exclusive but also ever green pieces from Prada. The Saffiano leather used by Prada has been long familiar due to its long-lasting and endearing high quality. The brand also launched some of the sexiest and trend-setting sunglasses, personifying lively styles and uniqueness in design! The edgy studded frame, baroque frame, round, aviators, cat-eye are the popular styles that can give your eyes an Italian designer make over.
The legacy of Prada lives on and a Prada piece can never be mistaken for any other. Just likes its name, it is timeless.
