Alexander McQueen was a British fashion designer and couturier who pushed fashion industry’s limits to another level. He is popular for his awe striking designs and fashion shows that are recognized as fresh and powerful. He has left a legacy behind him and his designs still live on. Alexander McQueen dropped out of school at the age 16 to pursue a career in fashion design. He began by working at tailor shops that made suits for clients on orders. He then went on to work for costume designers Angels and Bermans who are the inspiration behind his dramatic style influence, which later on became one of his signature styles. He moved between several jobs and completed his M.A. in fashion design at Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design, post which he launched his women’s line in 1992 which earned enormous success. His great work led him to become the Chief Designer of Louis Vuitton owned by Givenchy, where he only worked until 2001.
Gucci Group acquired 51 percent of the label in 2000. In 2004, McQueen launched his first menswear collection which was well received and was awarded the British Menswear Designer of the Year by the British Fashion Council. The brand introduced fragrances in 2003 and 2005 (Kingdom and MyQueen).
The label is known for its dramatic, gorgeously constructed pieces, combining elements of British tailoring with French couture. Signature looks include billowy dresses cut in hourglass silhouettes, frock coats paired with skinny pants, sharp, angular suiting, and darkly romantic gowns covered in intricate embroidery and lace.
